At 101 years old, My siblings and I knew that our mother would not have many more years ahead. Towards the end, each visit to Lion’s Head Ontario where she lived would conclude with farewells she always framed as “the last.” I would always respond with “we will visit again.”
I (living in Montreal then) and my siblings Lorna (in the Philippines) and Ruth (in California) are so grateful to our sister Vicky who for the past five years since my father passed away would visit our mother everyday at Golden Dawn Senior Citizen Home. My mother, because of Vicky’s dedication and love for her, was never alone even through the difficult Covid years. Thank you Vicky.
So much I recall of my mother. So many great memories. So many stories to tell and to write down. Her legacy, as well as that of my late father, will be treasured by our family for generations to come.
A heartfelt thank-you to Christ Church Anglican and the Rector, the Rev. Janaki Bandara for the welcome, the friendship and the support you extended to us in our time of grieving. Vicky and I will never forget your kindness.
We are grateful to Golden Dawn and the staff for looking after Leonor in her golden years.
I speak on behalf of the family: Thank you Jim and Glenna. You have so graciously come alongside us throughout this difficult time. You have blessed our lives in countless ways. Vicky and I treasure your friendship.
Jim, thank you for conducting the funeral service and delivering a fine message that brought honour to Leonor. Vicky remarked that the funeral service gave closure; it did for me as well.
Eloysa, thank you so much for writing a deeply touching obituary.1The obituary text incorrectly states that Leonor worked for Planned Parenthood. It should read “Family Planning” instead. It is so much more fitting and honouring than I could have ever penned.
Lastly, thank you Steve and the staff at George Funeral Homes. I am grateful that you kindly accommodated all the family’s requests.
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace :
according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen :
thy salvation; Which thou hast prepared: before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son :
and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be :
world without end. Amen.
